Very brief history of the internet

It is thought that that the first stages of the Internet was started in 1957 for the purpose in finding a way to safeguard against space based missiles after Russia launched Sputnik into space. This perhaps gave more reason to find a way to communicate more quickly. We of course do not know how many visionaries had been working on this or dreaming of this before that time.

The very brief history of the internet is fascinating and much is documented, but of course much failed to be documented as the importance of it was not then known. When the need for this means of communication became the priority and new needs arose the whole procedure moved more quickly.

Many people were acknowledged for their work in the progression and growth of the internet. Al Gore was acknowledged that he did more than any other elected official to support the growth and development of the internet from the 1970's on. In 1993 President Clinton and Vice President Gore were the first to send an official email from the White House.

According to Snope, Al Gore did not say that he invented the internet as is often told. The true story is there to read if interested.

In 2005 the organizer of the the Webby award for online achievement honored Al Gore with a lifetime achievement award for 3 decades of contributions to the Internet. Vent Cerf said, he is indeed due some thanks and consideration for his early contributions.
